Jewls Verse AND THE FARTHING ELVES

Jan 2006

Jewls Verse was fortunate enough to meet a couple of top class musicians from Sydney, Australia. It was a Sunday eve gig at BAR 120 in Mellieha on Xmas Day. See, the Xmas Party at Fat Harry's Pub was so Massive that Jewls had snapped a string on his guitar. Being a guitarist Mark (see top photo) asked Jewls if he needed a string for his guitar and it all kicked off from there. They ended up in a three-and-a-half-hour jam session in 2 different venues. Hugh arrived in Malta 2 weeks later (see 2nd photo).

Hugh came to Malta for two weeks and out of those two weeks jammed with Jewls on stage at every chance with percussion a Jambie and Jewls's Tarbuka.

The night usually started off like this "Ahhhh.... good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to bla bla bla, my name is Jewls Verse, this is Mark and this is Hugh and they are the Farthing Elves.

Jewls and the Farthing Elves covered loads of tracks from bands like Crowded House—all time favorites "Better Be Home Soon" and "Weather with You"—and acoustic versions of some Doors tracks, like "Roadhouse Blues" and "Riders on the Storm", Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", "Comfortably Numb" and many many others.

"I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed myself so much!!! Jammin' with these guys was just an awesome experience"

The night usually ended up with 2 fresh hot pizzas and a couple of take aways, and back to Jewls's.

Mark and Hugh were also introduced to Jewls's friend Kathy Manuell and Jewls had the opportunity to record a couple of brand new tracks with Hugh on Drums and Percussion and Mark on Guitars.

Jewls, Mark and Hugh, aka "The Farthing Elves" also ventured out of Malta and took the ferry to Gozo where a full day adventure started with trips to the Azure Window, Ta Pinu, The Gigantija Temples and the Red Sands of Ramla, and to finish of a Gozo day, down to Rexy's for a couple of fillets and rabbit.

After Hugh's departure from Malta, Mark carried on recording the new tracks with Jewls and jammed a couple more gigs till he also went back to the UK for his tour with a top Aussie band.

Jewls would Like to thank all the pubs that supported all the Jewls and the Farthing Elves shows, Fat Harry's Pub in Bay Square Bugibba, BAR 120 in Mellieha, The Grapevine in Bugibba and last but not least, Sue's Pub in Mellieha.

Jewls would also like to thank Kathy Manuell for the use of her studio. Music Can Save The World.
